The War on Christmas is over, but we’re expanding to other fronts with a look at how Satanists create holidays of their own — and consider why we even need them. Satanic Temple International Council member Damien Blackmoor joins us to discuss TST’s new holiday calendar, as we cover those and other Satanic sects’ chosen days of celebration.

Ahhhh, now I get your clinging to the idea of a “true Satanist.” Makes total sense. Have a great day.
I read in a science magazine that the reason a number of winter holidays fall on the 25th when the solstice is the 21st may be that it takes about 5 days for the lengthening day to be noticeable to people who live without artificial light. (Unless you’d built a huge stone or wooden structure to monitor these astronomical events.)

I’m finally caught up to y’all. I love this podcast and I love y’all.
It’s so nice to be able to listen to a podcast that gets updated twice a month with current up-to-date news that’s actually relevant to me ?
For a long time, I avoided formally becoming a member, or attaching myself to, any sort of organized religion. My political views never quite lined up with fellow acolytes of any religion I ever found myself interested in. Yet I have always found myself drawn to the archetype of the adversary: the fighter of the status quo. It’s impossible for me to look at the world and believe it’s exactly where it needs to be right now.
I found myself drawn to the archetype of Satan early on in life, but other than devil worship, I didn’t find much else. Atheistic Satanism held its allure, however the vast majority of folx I could find were much more conservative then I ever could be.
(And ooof it’s real fun to be told you’re a witch so use your “feminine wiles” to flirt your way to the top, who cares if I’m nonbinary right? /Sarcasm)
So I kept my distance from organized religion that misgendered me yet again and declared myself an atheist: drawn to the spooky and esoteric, but decidedly rooted in scientific reason…. Until I discovered TST. ?
I can proudly say I am now part of something bigger and more effective than myself alone, while not feeling like I’ve been completely cut out of the equation, or that I am some sort of pawn.
And for frickin ONCE my queer ass is in the damn majority FRICKIN WIN
I have always been the Satan. I have always bucked the status quo. But now I find camaraderie in TST, knowing I’m not alone in this fight. TST, all of us, are making the world a better place.
Y’all are wonderful, never stop doing this. Y’all are healing the world ??
Hail Satan, Hail Black Mass Appeal!!
Somehow hadn’t heard this episode yet.
Just wanted to say I found your response to the critical review pretty fair.
Needless to say, it’s your podcast and you can inject whatever politics you want into it. AND you state right up front that it’s left-leaning. So anyone who’s then annoyed by that….well, they had fair warning.
But your response was good. Agreed with all three of you…including Tabitha not being super keen on spending a whole lot of time dwelling on critical comments.
Personally, I quite enjoy the political angle of this show. In part because Satanism, in years past at least, unfortunately had a weird flirtation with fascist ideas and aesthetics. Sometimes more than mere flirtation. It’s important to have TST and shows like this push back on that and present a liberal alternative to the character of Satan as a more Romantic Promethean figure…as opposed to the red strong man mowing down the weak.
Lastly, I do find it VERY whiny how easily people get offended when someone presents a political opinion they don’t agree with. I mean….so what? Maybe you’re wrong. Or maybe they’re wrong. Or maybe hearing another argument will bolster your own ideas…or make you reflect on things differently. People get way too hot and bothered over mere disagreement lately.
Hell, while I agree with you all politically on damn near everything….I’m also very much a free speech absolutist. I’m a big proponent of LGBTQ+ rights and rethinking of gender politics and expression, etc. But do I think those who are vehemently opposed to all that should be censored in any way whatsoever? No. I don’t. And I know most of my liberal friends disagree with me on that.
Direct and specific calls to violence is one thing….but I WANT to live in a society where everyone feels 100% free to express themselves truly and openly and honestly, no matter how dark or unethical or abhorrent that may be. For one, I want to know what people REALLY think. And I want to have an open public conversation about that. I don’t want those people cancelled and shooed away into dark corners where we can’t hear them. That leads to big problems down the line.
But I get I’m kinda in the minority among liberals in thinking all that. And I’ve heard this show discuss free speech in ways I don’t quite agree with….seeing as my defense of free speech is very much about never shutting down speech I specifically despise…but rather, speaking back.
Anyway….I’m rambling a bit. All that to say….I’m glad this show is political. I’m glad I can gain energy and inspiration listening to three people I agree with 95% of the time. And I’m glad we disagree 5% of the time. Keeps things interesting.
um….Hail Satan! lol
I need to go to bed…..
